Chicago, Ill. – The Robert Morris Men’s Basketball team defeated Wilberforce University (Ohio) by the score of 103-78 at Attack Athletics on Saturday, January 5th. The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Eagles and raised their record to 7-10 for the season.
The Eagles, coming off a tough loss to #19 ranked Concordia (Calif.) on Thursday night, were a little sluggish in the opening minutes, falling behind 9-4 early on. However, the Eagles found their groove and took a 14-12 lead on a three-pointer from Joshua Anderson with 13:33 left in the first half. RMU built a six-point lead before Wilberforce tied the game at 25-25 with 8:25 to play in the opening half but the Eagles once again regained the lead, one they would hold on to for the remainder of the game. The Eagles opened up a 15-point margin and took a 50-36 lead into the locker room at the break.
It was all Eagles in the second half as they extended their lead to 65-43 with 15:04 left to play and continued to cruise as they led by 34 points with 7:49 remaining in the game. RMU finished the game off with the 103-78 victory, shooting 66.7% from three-point range and holding the Bulldogs to just 36.1% shooting and 25% from behind the arc.
Anthony Shoemaker scored a team high 23 points and Aubrey McAlpine turned in a strong all-around game with 18 points and six assists. Joshua Anderson chipped in with 14 points and Sean Montgomery added 12 points in the win.
The Eagles look for revenge in a rematch against 20th ranked Campbellsville University (Ky.) on Tuesday, January 8th at Attack Athletics. RMU lost to Campbellsville 75-57 on December 8th in the Campbellsville Classic in Kentucky earlier this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. and fans can listen to the game live on the Eagle Sports Network.
