Bensenville, Ill. – Third seeded Robert Morris University defeated fifth seeded Trinity Christian College by a score of 4-1 to win the CCAC Women’s Soccer Tournament title on Saturday, November 10th behind a hat trick from CCAC Player of the Year Florence Dadson. With the win, the Eagles received the conference’s second bid to the NAIA National Tournament along with regular season champion, Olivet Nazarene University.
Trinity Christian (11-9-1) struck first just over three minutes into the game when Trolls’ leading scorer Rachael Webb scored her 10th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
Florence Dadson equalized in the 20th minute, scoring the first of her three goals on the day banging home a loose ball off of an Eagles’ corner kick. Dadson converted again in the 34th minute, when she received a perfect pass through from freshman Carolynn Wieland and Dadson slotted the ball past goalkeeper Becky Gold for a 2-1 RMU lead. Senior defender Shannon Bennett gave RMU a 3-1 lead before the half, finishing a loose ball in the Trolls’ penalty box for her sixth goal of the season.
The Eagles’ forward combination of Dadson and Wieland combined again in the 77th minute, as Wieland slotted Dadson through for a breakaway and Dadson chipped the ball over the sliding goalkeeper for the 4-1 win and RMU’s first conference tournament title since 2004. Dadson now has 28 goals on the season.
RMU goalkeeper Ana Hernandez made one save in the match, while Becky Gold had two saves for the Trolls. The Eagles held a 12-4 shot advantage in the game.
Robert Morris (15-6) now waits for the NAIA National Tournament bracket to be released on Monday, November 12th at approximately 2:00 P.M. to find out their opening round opponent. The opening round games will be played on Saturday, November 17th.
