Chicago, Ill. – The Robert Morris Women’s Volleyball team opened up Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 victory over Roosevelt University on Tuesday, September 4th. The win raised the Eagles overall record to 2-7 and their CCAC record to 1-0.
The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Lakers in the first set but Roosevelt battled back to take an 8-7 lead and an 18-15 lead. RMU didn’t give up and took a 23-22 lead and eventually won the set 26-24.
The second set was another back-and-forth affair early on, but the Eagles grabbed the lead for good at 8-7 and built up five-point leads on two occasions before holding on for a 25-22 win. The third set was almost a carbon copy of the second set with the Lakers jumping out front early only to see RMU come back to win once again 25-22.
Kory Honel led the Eagles with 15 kills and 10 digs on the night.
“It was great to see the team cohesively work, focus on the details, and finish a match,” said Eagles Head Coach Lauren Joyce Hensel. “It was exciting to see Alyssa Harkema step up on the right side and Megan Tompkins solidify our defense. We are thrilled to see their development throughout the season.”
The Eagles continue CCAC Conference play on Thursday, September 6th against Illinois Tech at 7:00 P.M. at Attack Athletics in Chicago. This is the 2012 home opener for RMU and it can be heard live on the Eagles Sports Network.
