Men’s Soccer Opens 2012 Season with an 8-0 Win Over Harris-Stowe State

St. Louis, Mo. – The Robert Morris Men’s Soccer team opened the 2012 season with an impressive 8-0 victory over non-conference foe Harris-Stowe State University.

Felipe Cortez opened the scoring for the Eagles in the 24th minute on an assist from Rolando Cruz.  A pair of freshmen combined on the second goal as Chisom Ogbonna scored from a John Pachar assist in the 31st minute and  Pachar then assisted Monroe Bell Jr. on the Eagles third goal just three minutes later.  2011 CCAC Conference Player of the Year Gordy Gurson scored the first goal of his “hat trick” in the final seconds of the first half to give the Eagles a 4-0 half-time lead on a Patryk Gorajewski assist.

The Eagles didn’t let up in the second half adding four more goals in the stanza.  Gurson scored his second goal off of a free kick and his third goal was assisted by Stefan Zindovic, who also assisted a Jon Fuentes goal.  Carlos Ardon also scored in the 68th minute with Cortez picking up the assist.

Robert Morris dominated the game throughout outshooting Harris-Stowe 23-1 and had an 18-0 advantage in corner kicks on the day.  Milco Risteski made one save to earn his first career shut-out and raise the Eagles record to 1-0.

The Eagles get a day of rest before travelling to Hannibal, Mo. On Saturday, August 25th to take on #8 ranked Hannibal-LaGrange University.  Kick-off is set for 3:00 P.M.
