Men’s Cross Country Opens Season Strong with 5th Place Finish at Spartan Invitational

Aurora, Ill. – The Robert Morris Men’s Cross Country team opened up the 2012 season with a fifth place finish out of 17 teams at the Aurora University Spartan Invitational on Friday, September 7th.  The race was an 8,000 meter distance.

The Eagles were led by Mizael Carrera who finished in second place out of 188 runners with a time of 25:19, which is the best time by any CCAC Conference runner thus far this season.  JuanCarlos Barrera finished just behind Carrera in seventh place with a time of 26:03.  Other Eagles in the race were Alejandro Garcia (50th/27:45), Jacob Hernandez (66th/28:02), Edgar Olayo (135th/31:02), Travis Lewis (137th/31:04), and Oscar Avila (146th/31:40).

RMU’s number three and four runners did not compete due to injury but are expected back next week.

The Eagles travel to Normal, Illinois on Friday, September 14th to compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate Invitational that is being hosted by Illinois State University.  The race will begin at 5:45 P.M. at Weibring Golf Course.
