Peoria, Ill. – The Robert Morris Men’s and Women’s Bowling teams brought home more hardware as both teams won the KEGEL/ISBPA Collegiate Classic held at Landmark Lanes on Saturday, October 20th and Sunday, October 21st. This is the third win in as many tournaments for the men’s team and the second consecutive title for the women’s team.
On the men’s side there were 28 teams and 193 bowlers competing in the event and the Eagles were in first place after the qualifying rounds of six team games and 10 Baker games. At this point the field was cut to eight teams and they bowled two-game single elimination total pinfall Baker matches. The Eagles held on to win the first match by one pin and rolled through the second match by 45 pins to advance to the finals where RMU defeated Wichita State by 91 pins to win the title.
Senior Jacob Kent finished in first place while sophomore Dominic Partipilo took third and junior Matt Gasn finished in fifth place. All three bowlers made the All-Tournament team. Also bowling well for RMU was freshman Kyle King with an eighth place finish.
The RMU Women’s team finished in second place after the qualifying rounds and then won their first match in Match Play by 10 pins and their second match by one pin to advance to the finals. In the finals, the Eagles knocked off Wichita State by nine pins to make it back to back tournament wins for the team. There were 19 teams and 130 bowlers competing in the event.
Sophomore Tawni Vollmer took second place in the event and made the All-Tournament team. Also bowling well for the Eagles were junior Caitlin Hofmann (8th), grad student Alejandra Mora (20th), and freshman Rachel Vaughn (56th).
The Eagles Bowling teams travel to Lafayette, Indiana to compete in the Boilermaker Classic hosted by Purdue University on Saturday, October 27th and Sunday, October 28th.
