Men’s Bowling Wins Boilermaker Classic for Fourth Straight Title While Women’s Team Takes Second

Lafayette, Ind. – The Robert Morris Men’s Bowling team won its fourth championship in as many tries as they took home the title at the Boilermaker Classic hosted by Purdue University.  The RMU Women’s team took second place in the tournament behind champion Lindenwood University.

The event was comprised of 37 men’s teams and 240 bowlers and the Eagles won the event by 300 pins over runner-up McKendree University.  Junior Matt Gasn took first place averaging an incredible 243 to win his first collegiate title.  Freshman Ryan Zagar took second averaging 235 and sophomore Mason Petrin came in third place averaging 234.  All three bowlers earned All-Tournament team honors.  Also bowling well were senior Jacob Kent (7th), freshman David Schwartz (10th), freshman Tylor Greene (11th), freshman Kyle King (12th), and sophomore Marshall Kent (14th).

The RMU Gold and Maroon teams also competed in the tournament, finishing in third and 12th respectively.

On the women’s side, there were 26 teams and 175 bowlers competing in the event and the Eagles finished in second place behind Lindenwood University.  The Gold team finished in 12th and Maroon came in 13th.

Sophomore Tawni Vollmer finished in first place to win her first collegiate championship, averaging a 214 over the weekend.   Sophomore Leea Haworth averaged a 205 and finished in third place with both bowlers making the All-Tournament team.  Also bowling well were junior Katie Sexton (13th), freshman Courtney Johnson (23rd), and junior Tammy Priola (24th).

The RMU Bowling teams will take a much needed week off before returning to action on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th as they compete in the Leatherneck Classic in the Quad Cities.
