Winona Lake, Ind. – The fourth ranked Robert Morris Men’s Basketball team was upset by Huntington University (Ind.) by a score of 89-85 on Friday, November 16th in the Grace College Tournament. The loss drops the Eagles record to 2-3 on the young season.
Robert Morris fell behind to Huntington from the get go and trailed by as many 12 points with 11 minutes to play in the first half. However, the Eagles battled back and cut the deficit to 30-29 on a Sean Montgomery with 4:53 left in the half. Montgomery put the Eagles up 32-30 on another three-pointer and RMU opened up a six-point lead and led 40-38 at the break.
Huntington retook the lead in the second half with 16:24 to play and went on to open a 12-pont lead. The Eagles chipped away at that lead and brought it down to 83-81 with 2:29 to play on a Charles Plummer basket and then cut it to one-point with 2:08 remaining on a Larry Dumas bucket. However, Huntington outscored RMU 6-2 in the final two minutes for the 89-85 win.
Larry Dumas scored a game high 34 points while Sean Montgomery chipped in with 14 points in the loss.
Robert Morris plays game two of the tournament against hosts Grace College, who are rated #8 in the NAIA Division II Poll, on Saturday, November 17th at 3:00 P.M. Fans can listen to the game live on the Eagles Sports Network.
