Chicago, Ill. – The Robert Morris Women’s Basketball team won its third straight game, defeating Indiana University Northwest 86-64 on Wednesday, January 9th at Attack Athletics. The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, raised their record to 14-7 with the victory.
The game was close in the early stages and the RedHawks led just one time early on 7-6 with 15:24 to play in the first half. However, the Eagles settled in and had a great team effort on the night as they opened up a 20-8 lead on a Uniqua Hampton bucket with 10:33 to go in the opening half. Indiana Northwest fought back and tied the game 29-29 with 2:29 to go, but RMU went on an 11-2 run to close out the half and took a 40-31 lead into the locker room.
The second half was all Eagles as they jumped out to an 18-point lead with 13:26 remaining in the game and held a double digit lead for the rest of the way, closing out the game 86-64. RMU’s defense held the Redhawks to just 41.2% shooting on the night.
Mary Colon (12 pts & 7 reb), Yolanda De La Torre (14 pts & 8 reb), and Ashley Segers (21 pts & 7 reb) turned in strong all-around performances in the Eagles’ win. Celeste Jones chipped in with 13 points and six assists while Uniqua Hampton added 10 points and six rebounds.
“It was nice to finally turn in a strong performance on our home court,” stated RMU Head Coach John Natanek. “We played well as a team and got a convincing win against a good Indiana Northwest team. This was a good win.”
The Eagles are off until Saturday, January 19th when they host Olivet Nazarene University at Attack Athletics. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. and the RMU Men’s Basketball team will follow at 3:00 P.M. versus Concordia University – Illinois.
