Allentown, Pa. – The second ranked Robert Morris Women’s Bowling team won the Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic and took second place in the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic championships while on their annual East Coast trip this past week. The Eagles have won four out of ten tournaments that they have competed in thus far this season.
The Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic was comprised of 15 teams and 120 individual bowlers and was held on Thursday, December 27th and Friday, December 28th. The Eagles won the tournament by 118 pins ahead of second place University of Pikeville. Marian University finished in third place and Newman University came in fourth.
RMU junior Caitlin Hofmann finished in second place of the tournament with an average of 207.4 and freshman Courtney Dutton finished in third averaging 200.6, with both bowlers earning All-Tournament honors. Also bowling well for the Eagles were junior Katie Sexton (21st) and sophomore Tawni Vollmer (32nd).
The Eagles competed in their second tournament of the trip on Saturday, December 29th and Sunday, December 30th, taking second place in the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic by a mere eight pins behind champions Florida State University. The tournament was comprised of 18 teams and 144 bowlers and Wright State University took third place while Newman University came in fourth.
Grad student Alejandra Mora finished in fifth place with an average of 192.6 and was named to the All-Tournament team. Also bowling well were freshman Rachel Vaughn (8th), Vollmer (12th), and Hofmann (13th).
Robert Morris hosts their annual home tournament on Saturday, January 12th and Sunday, January 13th at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois. On Saturday, bowling begins at 11:30 A.M. and will end at approximately 5:30 P.M. On Sunday, action starts at 8:30 A.M. and will finish at approximately 3:30 P.M.
