Eagles Win Fourth Straight With a 45-6 Romp Over Lindenwood – Belleville

Belleville, Ill. – The Robert Morris Football team won its fourth straight game with a 45-6 romp over Lindenwood University – Belleville on Saturday, September 22nd.  With the victory, the Eagles raised their record to 4-1 on the year.

The game started out looking like it would be defensive battle until the Eagles marched 95 yards down the field and capped off the four minute drive with a Deshawn Weaver four-yard touchdown run.  Trae Berndt tacked on the extra point for a 7-0 lead at the end of one quarter.

Robert Morris blew the game open in the second quarter, scoring on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Matt Westerkemp to Deshawn Weaver for a 14-0 lead.  Just under three minutes later, Lamont Wims scampered on a 44-yard TD run to give the Eagles a 21-0 lead.  Trae Berndt tacked on a 26-yard field goal at the end of the half for a 24-0 margin as time expired.

RMU made it 31-0 with 7:16 to play in the third quarter on Lamont Wims’ second touchdown run of the day and his seventh on the season.  Lindenwood-Belleville ruined the Eagles defense’s bid for a shut-out, connecting on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Kerry Gibson to Willie Maxwell with 5:02 to play in the third quarter to cut the RMU lead to 31-6.

The Eagles added two more touchdowns in the final quarter as Deshawn Weaver scored his third touchdown on the day on a four-yard pass from Westerkamp and a 12-yard Neno Jones-Fletcher TD run.

Lamont Wims led the Eagles again in rushing with 207 yards and two TD’s on 20 carries while quarterback Matt Westerkamp was 16-27 for 202 yards and two touchdowns.  TaDarrius Douglass led RMU with 81 yards receiving and Deshawn Weaver had 57 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Jordan Tuia had a team high 7.5 tackles and Angelo Parker had seven tackles and an interception.  Other Eagles with interceptions were Doug Sachtleban, Dae’von Scarber, and Phil Emminger.

The Eagles return home to Morris Field on Saturday, September 29th as they host Trinity International at 7:00 P.M.  for “Pack the Place” night.  If you can’t make the game, fans can watch the game live on the Eagles Sports Network.
