Eagles Take Fourth in CCAC Conference Meet While Mizael Carrera & JuanCarlos Barrera Qualify for the NAIA National Championship Meet

Channahon, Ill. – The Robert Morris Men’s Cross Country team finished in fourth place of the 12 team CCAC Conference Meet that was held on Saturday, November 3rd.  The Eagles posted their fastest average time in school history at 26:05 for the 8km race.

Mizael Carrera of RMU set a school record time of 24:34 in the 8km race, besting the previous school record of 24:40 held by Eagle Hall of Fame member Hillary Rono.  Rono’s record has held strong since 2003.  Carrera finished in fifth place in the meet and qualified for the NAIA National Meet along with teammate JuanCarlos Barrera.  Barrera finished in 10th place with a time of 25:15 and both runners earned CCAC All-Conference honors.  This marks the first time in over ten years that the Eagles qualified more than one athlete for the national meet.

Phillippe McNeal finished in 37th place with a time 26:28 while Jacob Hernandez and Alejandro Garcia finished in 45th and 46th places respectively with times of 27:03 and 27:05.  Travis Lewis took 67th place (28:05), Edgar Olayo took 98th (30:29), and Oscar Avila finished in 101st (30:54).

Mizael Carrera and JuanCarlos Barrera will now train for the NAIA National Championship Meet, which will be held on Saturday, November 17th in Vancouver, Washington.
