Milwaukee, Wis. – The Robert Morris Women’s Volleyball team lost to Cardinal Stritch University in five sets and were eliminated from the CCAC Conference Tournament on Tuesday, November 6th. The loss ends the Eagles 2012 season with a record of 12-25.
Cardinal Stritch ran out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and never lost control of it, as the Eagles weren’t able to overcome the early deficit and came as close as 15-13 in the match. The Wolves closed out the set with a 25-20 win.
Robert Morris roared back winning the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20 to take the upper hand with a 2-1 lead in the match. The fourth set was a tight one early on but the Eagles opened up a 10-7 lead on two kills by Melissa Joyce and a kill by Allyson Murray. Once again the Wolves battled back and took an 11-10 lead which they did not relinquish, finishing off the set with a 25-20 win to even the match at 2-2.
The Eagles started out hot in the tie breaking set, jumping out to 4-1 lead. However, Cardinal Stritch showed their tenacity and evened the set at 5-5 and the teams were also tied at 8-8. At this point, Cardinal Stritch rolled off four straight points to take a commanding 12-8 lead and closed out the tiebreaker 15-9 for a 3-2 match win.
The loss ends the outstanding collegiate careers of RMU seniors Kory Honel and Melissa Joyce. Joyce had 18 kills and 17 digs in the loss, while Honel registered 13 kills. Junior Myranda Cate chipped in with 47 assists.
