Chicago, Ill. – The Robert Morris Men’s Basketball team defeated Indiana University Kokomo in convincing fashion by the score of 83-63 on Wednesday, January 16th at Attack Athletics. The victory raised the Eagles’ record to 9-12 for the season.
Indiana Kokomo played the Eagles tough in the opening minutes and led 7-6 with 16:28 left in the first half. However, Anthony Shoemaker put the Eagles up 8-7 on a layup and it was a lead RMU would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. Another Shoemaker layup gave the Eagles their largest lead of the first half at 30-17 with 4:53 left and RMU took a 35-26 lead into the break.
The Cougars gained momentum and some life early in the second half, cutting the RMU lead down to five points with 16:52 to play but the Eagles answered right back with a 9-0 run to led 49-35 with 13:30 to go. The Eagles put their foot down on the Cougars opening up a 24-point lead and closing out the game with the 83-63 win. The Eagles’ defense held the Cougars to 9.1% shooting from three-point range and 38.2% overall.
Sean Montgomery had an outstanding game for RMU, posting a game high 25 points to go with seven rebounds. Brian Bradley posted 11 points and six assists, Maurice Williams scored 11 points, and Anthony Shoemaker chipped in with 10 points in the win.
The Eagles continue their home stand on Saturday, January 19th at 3:00 P.M. as they host Concordia University-Illinois at Attack Athletics. The game is the second part of doubleheader with the RMU Women’s team tipping off at 1:00 P.M. versus Olivet Nazarene University. Fans can listen to both games live on the Eagle Sports Network.
