Campbellsville, Ky. – The Robert Morris Men’s Basketball team lost both of their games in the Lou Cunningham Classic hosted by Campbellsville University (Ky.), falling to 8th ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 78-68 on Friday, December 7th and 75-57 to 18th ranked Campbellsville University on Saturday, December 8th. The losses dropped the Eagles’ record to 4-7 on the season.
In Friday night’s loss, Lindsey Wilson scored the first four points of the game and never looked back, as the Eagles never could gain a lead and trailed 36-24 at the break. RMU shot just 28.6% from the field including 1-10 from three-point range during the first half, while the Blue Raiders shot 45.2% and 71.4% from behind the arc.
The Eagles picked it up in the second half, outscoring Lindsey Wilson 44-42 but it was too little, too late as RMU lost 78-68. Sean Montgomery led the Eagles with 19 points while Brian Bradley scored 18 points in the loss.
Things did not get easier for the Eagles on Saturday night, as they took on tournament hosts and 18th ranked Campbellsville University. RMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer from Aubrey McAlpine and built a 14-8 lead with 14:23 left in the first half. However, the Tigers responded with a 9-0 run to take a 17-14 lead. RMU tied the game back up at 19-19 on another McAlpine three, but Campbellsville regained the lead at 20-19 with 4:28 to play in the first half, a lead they would keep for the remainder of the game.
Anthony Shoemaker and Maurice Williams scored a team high 16 points while Aubrey McAlpine chipped in with 10 points.
The Eagles are off until Monday, December 17th when they host Talladega College (Ala.) at Attack Athletics. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. and fans can listen to the game live on the Eagle Sports Network.
