Palos Heights, Ill. – The Robert Morris Men’s Soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-0 victory over Trinity Christian College to finish in fourth place of the CCAC Conference. The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, finished the season with a 7-4 record in conference play and a 12-4-1 record overall.
The first half was a scoreless affair with both teams almost even in shots with Trinity Christian holding a slight 7-6 edge. However, the Eagles had the closest scoring chance when a Troll clearance bounded off of RMU’s Kosta Risteski and hit off the crossbar and out.
Robert Morris picked up the pressure in the second half and they were able to break the deadlock in the 52nd minute, when leading scorer Gordy Gurson hammered a shot into the near corner for his 14th goal of the year. Junior Bobby Hurwitz added an insurance goal in the 89th minute when he dribbled through the Trinity Christian back line and slotted his shot past goalkeeper Nate VanderWoude for the 2-0 win. The goal was Hurwitz’ first of 2012.
RMU goalkeeper Milco Risteski made five saves for his seventh shut-out of the season and the Eagles outshot the Trolls 15-12 on the day.
Robert Morris enters the CCAC Conference Tournament as the fourth seed and will host fifth seeded Holy Cross College on Saturday, November 3rd. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 P.M. at the Redmond Athletic Complex in Bensenville following the women’s soccer conference tournament game at 1:00 P.M.
