Chicago, Ill. – The Robert Morris Women’s Basketball team defeated Judson University by the score of 76-62 on Friday, November 9th for its third consecutive victory. The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Preseason Poll, are now 3-1 in the young season.
Junior Uniqua Hampton scored the first basket of the game to put the Eagles up and RMU would not relinquish that lead for the remainder of the game. The Eagles built a first half lead as large as 14 points but Judson cut into that lead just before the break and trailed 37-32.
Robert Morris went on an 8-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half and they never looked back, holding a double digit lead for the final 6:33 and stretching that lead to 16 points with 1:54 to play. RMU closed out the game with a 76-62 win.
Uniqua Hampton led all scorers with 20 points and three other Eagles scored in double figures. Celeste Jones had 17 points, Mary Colon scored 12 points, and Danisha Cole chipped in with 10 points. Jones also had seven steals along with teammate Ashley Segers.
“This wasn’t one of our best offensive displays this season but I am happy that we were able to walk away with the win,” stated Eagles Head Coach John Natanek. “It’s early in the year but we need to become more focused on offense and be able to execute better.”
The Eagles begin a tough stretch of their schedule as the team hits the road for their next nine games. Next up is 21st ranked Columbia University (Mo.) on Monday, November 12th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M. in Columbia, Missouri.
