Elgin, Ill. – The Robert Morris Women’s Soccer team upset 16th ranked and second seeded Judson University by a score of 2-1 in the CCAC Conference Tournament semi-finals on Wednesday, November 7th. With the win, the Eagles advance to the conference tournament title game on Saturday, November 10th and will host fifth seeded Trinity Christian College, who upset top seeded Olivet Nazarene University 1-0.
The Eagles, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Poll, fell behind Judson 1-0 in the 20th minute when Angela Bianchi got behind the RMU backline and slotted her breakaway attempt past goalkeeper Ana Hernandez. The lead was short-lived for Judson, as RMU answered back two minutes later when Carolynn Wieland played a great ball across to Florence Dadson. Dadson got tangled up with her defender but muscled through the tackle and scored her 25th goal of the season.
Dadson nearly put the Eagles up before the break but her shot hit off the post and out. The score remained 1-1 at the half despite RMU holding an 8-3 advantage in shots.
Robert Morris held an advantage in shots again in the second half and they were rewarded in the 73rd minute off another fantastic individual effort from Dadson. Dadson beat four Judson defenders on the dribble in the penalty box and fired a shot that goalkeeper Sara Hoffman saved, but RMU midfielder Linda Eshun hammered home a volley off of the rebound for a 2-1 lead. The goal was Eshun’s 11th of the season.
Minutes later, defender Shannon Bennett looked to put the game out of reach as she rifled a 30-yard shot but it caromed off the post to keep the Eagles lead at 2-1. The RMU defense and goalkeeper Ana Hernandez held strong in the final minutes to preserve the victory.
RMU outshot Judson 15-5 on the day and goalkeeper Ana Hernandez made two saves in the victory.
The Eagles will host Trinity Christian College on Saturday, November 10th at Redmond Athletic Complex in Bensenville with the CCAC Conference Tournament title and a NAIA National Tournament bid on the line. Kick-off is set for 2:00 P.M. and fans can listen to the game live on the Eagles Sports Network.
