Arlington Heights, Ill. – The 22nd ranked Robert Morris Football team cruised to a 58-0 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University on Saturday, October 27th at Morris Field. The Eagles have won eight consecutive games for a record of 8-1 this season and continue their run at a NAIA Football National Championships Series bid.
The Eagles scored the game winning touchdown on the opening kick-off as Dontrel Chance took the return 90 yards for the score. Trae Berndt converted the point after for a 7-0 RMU lead just 13 seconds into the game.
RMU added another touchdown on their next possession as Terrance Baker capped off a five-play, 47-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown plunge for a 14-0 lead. Linebacker Angelo Parker set up the Eagles for their third score when he intercepted a Dominick Panzy pass to give RMU the ball on the Haskell 26-yard line. Two plays later, running back sensation Lamont Wims scampered for a 17-yard score to stretch the RMU lead to 21-0. The touchdown was his 17th of the season which is seventh in the NAIA.
Robert Morris added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to build up a 42-0 half-time lead over the Indians. Quarterback Matt Westerkamp connected with Raheem Gardner on a four-yard TD pass, Wims scored his 18th TD on a 30-yard run, and Neno Jones-Fletcher scored on a one-yard touchdown run at the end of the half.
The second half did not start out well for the Indians either, as Tyler Starke forced and recovered a Cody Lanyate fumble on the kick-off to give RMU the ball on the Haskell 35-yard line. On the very next play, Dontrel Chance broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run to increase the Eagles lead to 49-0. The Eagles tacked on a safety later in the third quarter when Chris Greenway tackled Haskell running back Canku One Star in the end zone to up the lead to 51-0.
Late in the fourth quarter, Shaquille Mosely intercepted a Haskell pass to set up the Eagles final score. Andrew Williamson capped off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles the 58-0 win. The touchdown was Williamson’s second of the season.
Lamont Wims, the NAIA’s leading rusher, ran for 119 yards on eight carries and Dontrel Chance had 90 yards on 11 carries. Quarterback Matt Westerkamp was 12-19 for 144 yards and no interceptions. TaDarrius Douglas led the Eagles in receiving with 78 yards on three catches.
The Eagles travel to Valley City, N.D. to take on Valley City State University on Saturday, November 3rd. Kick-off is set for 1:00 P.M. and the game can be heard live on the Eagles Sports Network. RMU closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 10th as they host defending NAIA national champion and 5th ranked Saint Xavier University with a 1:00 P.M. kick-off at Morris Field.
