Lamoni, Iowa – The 20th ranked Robert Morris Women’s Soccer team advanced to the second round of the NAIA National Tournament with a convincing 4-0 win over 12th ranked Graceland University (Iowa) on Saturday, November 17th.  The victory raised the Eagles record to 16-6 and they will now play 7th seeded Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) on Tuesday, November 27th in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Robert Morris took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when CCAC Conference Player of the Year Florence Dadson hammered in a loose ball in the Graceland penalty box.  Defender Olivia Amoako and her back line teammates held the Graceland attack at bay for the remainder of the half and the Eagles led 1-0 at the break.

The Eagles exploded for two goals in the first four minutes of the second half to take control of the game.  Freshman Carolynn Wieland put RMU up 2-0 in the 47th minute as she beat Yellowjackets’ goalkeeper Stefany Castano Cardozo on a shot from 20 yards out.  The goal was Wieland’s fifth of the year.  Just over two minutes later, Wieland found Dadson in front of Graceland’s goal and Dadson slotted home her second goal of the game and her 30th of the season for a 3-0 RMU lead.

RMU put an exclamation mark on the win in the 66th minute when sophomore Gaby Loera made it 4-0 with her second goal of 2012 off of an assist from Dadson.  Eagles’ goalkeeper Ana Hernandez made four saves to earn her third shut-out of the season.

“Today was a total team effort and I am extremely proud of our girls for this win over a very good Graceland team,” stated Eagles Head Coach Kurt Melcher.  “I have to give credit to our back line for shutting down a very potent offense and obviously our forwards and midfielders as well for creating their chances.  Every game is a battle in the national tournament and we need to keep bringing the same energy and intensity that we brought tonight.”

The Eagles will now play seventh seeded Embry-Riddle University (Fla.) on Tuesday, November 27th in Orange Beach, Alabama.  Embry-Riddle is ranked 14th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll and defeated Faulkner University (Ala.) 5-1 to advance to the second round.  Kick-off is set for 11:00 A.M. and fans can listen to the game live on the Eagles Sports Network or watch the game live via purchase through the NAIA.
